-- Humanity's First Attempt to Save EARTH by Rerouting path of an ASTEROID in SPACE --

DOUBLE ASTEROID REDIRECTION TEST (#DART) probe of @NASA has successfully smashed an #ASTEROID, named #DIMORPHOS, to slightly change its orbit.

It is HUMANITY's FIRST EVER ATTEMPT as #PLANETARY #DEFENCE #TECHNIQUE to avert any FUTURE hitting of a celestial body with our EARTH.

This is NASA’s one planetary defense strategy that demonstrates a "viable mitigation technique" for protecting our planet from an Earth-bound #asteroid or comet in the future. The #DART has targeted the asteroid moonlet Dimorphos (160 meters in diameter) and orbits a bit larger asteroid called #Didymos (780-meter). Fortunately, neither asteroid poses a threat to our mother #Earth.

Kudos to NASA - National #Aeronautics and Space Administration for such a spectacular achievement.
