CBSE Class 10, Class 12 board exams: Important dates, assessment pattern, practical exam, result - All you need to know

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) had earlier cancelled the Class 10 exam and postponed the Class 12 exam. However, due to the ongoing pandemic theory exams for class 12 were also cancelled.

The board will soon decide on a ‘well-defined objective criterion' to evaluate the students.

As board exams have been cancelled due to the Covid-19 situation, Class 10 students will be assessed out of a maximum of 100 marks for each subject, with 20 marks for internal assessment and 80 marks which were allotted for year-end board exams. The results of CBSE Class 10 students will be declared on June 20, 2021, announced the board

The CBSE board said 20 marks for internal assessment conducted by affiliated schools will be as per the existing policy. The 80 marks will comprise 40 marks for pre-board examinations conducted by the school, 30 marks for half-yearly or mid-term examinations and 10 marks for periodic tests or unit tests conducted by the school in the academic year.

The CBSE has constituted a 13-member committee to decide an objective criterion for alternate assessment for class 12 and is contemplating two options. The first one is to evaluate them based on marks obtained in Class 9,10, 11 final exams. The second is to consider the Class 10 board exam results along with Class 12 internal assessments.

In case a student is not satisfied with his class 10/12 marks he will be given the opportunity to appear for the exam when the situation becomes conductive.

Practical exam

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) asked schools to conduct their pending class 12 practicals and internal assessments in online mode, and submit the marks by June 28 2021.

Result

The CBSE Class 10 result 2021 which were to be announced by June 20 is now expected to be out by July.

Since the board extended the date of submission for class 12 internals, the result will be declared only after the evaluation is complete. CBSE Secretary Anurag Tripathi while speaking to ANI said that they are trying to get the result out in the shortest possible time so that students may not face any issues while applying to foreign institutes.

Attention students! CBSE Schools to conduct pending Class 12 internal and practical exams via online mode

Pending school-based assessment including internals, practicals and projects of Class 12 will be conducted by affiliated schools via online mode and marks should be uploaded by June 28, announced the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Monday. Students of CBSE Class 12 were worried as some of their internal assessment exams were not conducted by schools due to lockdown restrictions necessitated by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The CBSE sent a letter dated June 6, to all principals and heads of affiliated schools stating, "Some schools have not been able to complete the school-based assessment in various subjects due to the pandemic. Thus, schools with pending practicals or internal assessments are permitted to conduct the same now in online mode only and upload the marks latest by June 28."

The board further stated that external examiners will decide the date of examination in consultation with internal examiners and take viva voce through online mode in case of practical examinations or project evaluation where external examiners are appointed by CBSE

Following cancellation of CBSE Class 12 theory exams, students were worried about internal exams that were not conducted by some schools. A student on request of anonymity said, "I did not want to go to school physically just to appear for my practical exam due to Covid-19 risks." While another student said, "I am glad the board has directed schools to conduct pending practical exams via online mode."

Internal examiners have been directed to share the date of the exam with students well in advance. The board said, "A recording of the entire session should be kept or an on-screen photograph including the external examiner, internal examiner and the student should be taken during the viva voce. The last date for uploading marks is June 28, no extension will be granted.
